Plaque For the Back of the Cabinet

The back of the cabinet I repainted would show in the kitchen so I wanted to come up with a way to decorate it.

Here is the cabinet

The finished Cabinet

See how the back shows.

Here is the finished plaque

1.I took a piece of brown kraft paper folder it over then folded it again . Then cut around it to get my pattern.
2.I laid it on a 3/4 inch plywood board traced it on the board and cut it out using a band saw
3.I took the same pattern folded it back to the original fold and cut around it again making the pattern but smaller
 4. traced out the smaller pattern on another piece of  3/4 inch plywood and cut it out with a band saw.
5.Route the edges on both pieces with whatever router bit. ( I like the really decorative ones but they can get a little more pricey.

6. used rustoleum Painters touch to spray the larger piece in heirloom white. (This is great paint it doesn't scratch like the other spray paints
7. I stained the center piece in Minwax dark Walnut
8. I applied about 5 coats of satin wipe on poly( sanding lightly between coats)
9.When I finished I lightly sanded the stained part to give me a smooth surface for painting
10.I painted over the dark walnut with 2 coats of Annie Sloans Providence and sanded the paint down to get rid of the brush marks. The Purdy angle brush is the best brush for this paint I also sanded through some of the providence so the dark walnut will peek through. ( This is why I put Wipe On
Poly over the dark walnut because I did not want to sand it off when distressing)
11. I used Annie Sloan clear wax and waxed over the providence.
12. I sprayed the stencil on with Martha Stewarts stencil spray in the can. It is wonderful for keeping the stencils in place and helping to prevent bleeding.
13. I rolled on some acrylic metallic paint with a white sponge roller.
14. Carefully take off the stencil.
15. I went back and applied Annie Sloans dark wax to antique it a little
15. Lastly I used my fingernail to scratch off the stencil to age it a little. ( This is why I put the clear wax on then stenciled. It scratches off really easy. DO NOT let the acrylic stenciled part sit for too long it will be harder to scratch off if you are going to antique it. ( I let it sit for about 30-40 minutes when I could touch it and it would not smear.
I wasn't too concerned about protected the stenciled part since it just hangs on the wall.

This is how the cabinet first looked. I wanted to really change it.
